ugh... water change with no water!!!

i HATE cold weather!

started my usual water changes with my 4 boys. nothing special, first 2 tanks went as per normal. did my cleaning, added my conditioner and all went fine. but then, no water!!!!! the taps were dead! first, i thought its a bad joke! i slightly freaked... we had no bottled water as we dont need it....

so, i asked mum what happened and that it was urgent as i had no water left and my boys were in their cups! she said the attic water tank is empty and cant be filled because the mains are frozen!!!

its so darn cold here!!!

so, i raced to the next shopped and got a few 5L water bottles. spent over 10$ on them and finished my water changes by heating some of the water in the kettle....

i was WRECKED. so stressed out....

in future ill have spare water!!! never know when the taps freeze up again

Wow that doesn't sound fun. When I lived in Alaska the water never froze but we had to leave the faucet dripping when we left for vacations or it would have. A betta would have died there because once we came back from a two week vacation and the power was out and it was 15 degrees inside!

At least your Bettas got some water.

The same thing has been happening over in Yorkshire!!
Were the only people on our street who's water pipes had not frozen . Its because we have the heating and hot water on all day. Its - 11 right now....

5 gallon,natural planted tank with 1 betta.
20 gallon community tank.
6 gallon guppy fry tank.

The lowest I get here is about 40. Some days we get 90-100 in the middle of winter, but right now its pouring out :D

But I'm sure your bettas were relieved you got that water, lmao >.<

yeah all went well thank god... of course if i had known i wouldnt have taken them out of the warm tanks.... but i had already cupped them (2 of my boys) and poured out old water. tap on, like a few seconds of water and then it stopped... my face would have been hilarious to watch im sure! face palm moment!!!
aaaanyways... that'll teach me lol...

its -12 C out atm. thts serious for ireland... all the houses are only 12 C inside cause they arent insulated. water freezes, cars skid around cause we dont have winter tyres and not enough grit for roads lol.
