How has fish keeping changed you? For me it's how I see everyday objects and I've noticed that it's made me care about all living things.
For example, Vinegar isn't a food any more for me. It's an
ultra-heavy-duty-grandma-cleaned-the-fishtanks-again-miracle-worker! (No hard feelings on grandmas heehee I just thought that was funny to put in)
And in Canada, we measure in litres instead of gallons which most fishtanks are measured in. So in math class, when we were working on measurement I would always accidentally write gallons instead of litres.
I now have an obsession with plastic containers. Whenever I see a jar or a jug or a plastic container, I will immediately start thinking of how it could be utilised in my fish room.
Whenever I go on walks now, I am forever looking at things like fallen branches and rocks, and wondering how I could use them in my fish tanks. I only wish I lived further north where there are many more aquatic plants and native fish to be caught.

I found this really interesting looking plant in a ditch next to a road I walk along with my dog. The ditch is partially filled with water and it seems to be at least semi-aquatic based on how it is growing.
I've been spying on it for a couple of walks now, but it's a busy road and I would likely look crazy pulling plants out of a ditch in broad daylight. So the plan is to go very early in the morning with the dog, and pull it out then.
Better to look crazy than suspicious? I tried going out once late at night for to go plant "shopping" in my neighborhood, and set off a few emergency lights.
I saw your shepherd pup in your journal, btw. Real cute!
I often go out on swap meets in public places which involves openly trading suspicious looking ziplock bags with green stuff or white powder inside... I'm surprised we haven't been reported yet. Lol
This is why I love this hobby!
We go out and I look for anything that could possibly be put in a tank and think 'I wonder what I'd have to do to that to make it tank safe...' Or I find jars and think about how it could be used for Bettas. I look at things differently now.
Where do you guys go to find those turkey basters? Those are almost obsolete until Thanksgiving here.
Agreed. even like those small glass bowls. You can place into the tank to add things into it like another plant would be super cool! Also I have been looking around for bowls for air plants lately.
I always look at the craft area at wal-mart too to see if there are any interesting things for a tank setup.
oh really, the turkey basters? you can try to find them at wal-mart at the kitchen area. Where the spatulas are.
I have three boxes of rooibos tea stashed underneath one of my fish tanks and I've never had a cup. I like tea and drink quite a bit of it but I kinda associate it with fish tank water.
agreed with the tea. Never dink the stuff though, but I bought some for my fish. LOL
Also, Clove Oil. Though it is a sad thing to have, but instead of using it on my teeth, I use it for when my fish have tumors and cannot swim and are feeling it is the end.
toothbrush, I use that for cleaning plants off that have algae. I have a toothbrush of my own. Haha.
And Epsom salt, you all know what that is for, for fish. I should try it on myself some day. =P
What a racket! My LFS sells the same one for $1.95. I got mine at the dollar store.
