So, my new betta is a very active boy, more so than my previous fishies, he's got spunk and he's adorable. I've had him home for a few days now and now that he's in his new tank he's very happy.

For some weird and adorable reason, whenever I turn the light off in my bedroom (the main light, his tank light stays on during the day) whether to leave for work or to watch a movie ect, he starts flaring all over the place. I noticed it last night and tested it out and sure enough every time I turn the main light off he flares. Not sure why but he's so handsome and silly when he does. If anything, it makes his daily exercising easy, no need to hold up a mirror lol :)

d'awwww! I'm glad he is happy. =)

there might be some reflection going on when you turn off your light maybe? Hmm strange. haha let's hope he will not start chewing on his fins like all the other bettas on here x_x

I have a CT that never bit his tail, but it is so thin that anything will rip it. So I have the same issue in a way. My Delta chewed on his tail. I found out that it was the reflection so I added white to the background and he stopped.

My crowntail Arthur is a little bit like that, has a mad flare every now and again for no discernible reason. He's also sociable, I moved him into the lounge from the bedroom and he seems to really enjoy a bit more activity to watch. Although it's a glass aquarium it's in a light room and I've tried to minimise reflection. I think he's just very protective of his space. He hasn't shown any sign of fin chewing. I have seen him trying to attack a couple of snails though that snuck in on a plant, which is probably going to be quite handy in the future ;)

My fishie does this too! I thought I was the only one with a weird fishie. :)

Tree, did you find the white paper made the reflection not noticable or just not as much? I tried white printer paper for my glass surfer but I noticed his reflection was still visible. I have some black construction paper I wanted to try next.
