Question Hmmm Sorta Confused...

Well I am getting a Betta fish in about a week and im not sure about where I should get it.... I have already crossed Walmart off the list because of all the horrible Betta stories I have heard about. As for local Fish Stores, none I have heard about. So I would appreciate it if you have any suggestions!!

What about Petsmart or Petco? Do you have those around you?
You could buy one from AquaBid, they have lovely bettas.
But they are more expensive, plus the shipping.
I think it would be worth it though. :)

Can you google for local fish stores in your area? A fish store is preferable to petco/petsmart.

It depends on the store.
Mine here are good, but I have occasionally seen sick fish. I've only seen 2 fish dead in the entire fish section 1 time. Petco is farther away from me, so I haven't been able to check the fish, but alot of them seem to take care of them well!
I think you'd probably be able to find healthy ones at petco or petsmart.

Petco and Petsmart are wildcards, but a majority of the time, their betta care is far off par. A locally owned pet store is preferable, and a locally owned fish store is the best option ever! My fish store has awesome care standard. I only saw one dead fish the entire time I've shopped there, and that was in the feeder goldfish pond. Yeah, they keep their feeders in their own pond. If that's not quality care, I don't know what is.

Local fish stores are a crapshoot. Some times they are awesome.. sometimes they are worse than walmart. You really just have to go to the places with available fish (including walmart because not all walmarts are created equal) and judge the care of the fish for yourself.

The only way to ensure your getting a healthy fish is to buy directly from a breeder in high standing.

I agree with 1Fish2Fish.

In my area, the PetCo takes amazing care of their Bettas- I've only seen one dead one the many times I've looked back at the Bettas.

And some LFS don't carry Bettas. As of Thursday, my LFS only has one Betta in the entire store. Granted, he's in a tank, but it's only one betta in a store with over 200 bays for fish.
