Call PETA on that store's arse >:E
(Since I've heard PETA and etc do pet terrorism over there lol!)
PETA is nothing more than a group of cowards. They can't get the attention of several people so they target young children and state false information about the treatment certain animals get. I've seen PETA place children in cages to represent the way they claim animals are treated and they misuse woman by making them pose in nude advertisements. PETA has admitted that they don't give a **** about the treatment of woman and will remain that way until all animals are treated equal. They also slaughter over 80% of the animals that are placed into their care. PETA is a fraud and scam that nobody should support. There's no way that I'd invite PETA into my state just to terrorize everyone. If it were up to me PETA wouldn't even exist. (Lol, you're lucky that you live in London away from the stupidity of PETA)
Hahaha, I didn't know, but there's like idk PCA something doesn't it? Or just the animal police of some sort.
Animals in the meat industry and in several other animal based industries are treated quite terribly. Have you seen any videos of slaughter houses? Or Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (how we get most of our store-bought meat)? How about a fur factory? It's absolutely terrifying.
I'm not saying PETA is justified in some of their ridiculous tactics, just that a lot of the proof they present is valid.
There are MUCH better animal rights organizations that are completely non-violent.
Laws dealing with animal treatment often aren't applied to most industries as there are ex-CEOs and VPs from various CAFOS and Agri-businesses in key positions at the top of the FDA hierarchy.
It is a shame that fish are treated differently than fuzzy animals. They have feelings and their lives are just as valuable as other animals. It would be difficult to enforce any laws regarding fish treatment outside of pet stores as it's more difficult to obtain documented proof of cruelty unless you know the owners personally and at the same time are willing to call them out about and alert the authorities to the fish's treatment.
Good on your for rescuing the betta and I hope it gets better soon. If possible I'd get him one of those betta logs, sand the inside (just to be safe) reseal it with a thin layer of silicone, and put it in the tank so that your boy doesn't have to swim as far while he's healing. =]
