Today I was emptying out my three foot tank so that I could start fishless cycling it. Anyways as I was sifting through the gravel (water looks like very dark tea because of the wood) I noticed something moving about. Thinking to myself that it looked like a fry but knowing it couldnít possibly be, I took a few minutes to catch what I thought would turn out to be a bug.
Imagine my surprise when that Ďbugí turned out to really be a tiny, baby fish.
I canít believe anything was alive in there. The tank water smells slightly putrid (there is no filter so it was sitting stagnant) and the water temperature was around 15-20 degrees because I took out the heater. However, there was an abundance of microworms and other microscopic bugs for it to eat so I assume that is how it has survived.
The only fish I can think the fry has come from is my group of Betta uberis that used to live in there. At the moment it is floating in a cup in my uberis tank warming up, and Iíve added some Prime because I know the ammonia was pretty high in my 3 foot tank when I last checked.
Iíve decided to go set-up a tank of its own because itís so small Iím afraid one of my adult fish will attack/eat it, plus it will be easier to feed and maintain. In the meantime I have christened it ĎMiracleí for obvious reasons.
