So far, I've only seen one dead betta at my Petsmart. I've been lucky. I would have seen a dead betta at Wal-Mart if I hadn't bought her and taken her home so she could die in clean water - severe dropsy and parasites, she was standing on her tail in the cup. I went back to rescue another girl but she was gone. Where to, I don't even want to think about it.
fishman, that's just truly horrible. :( And yeah, you may be young but you've got rights. Like, "The customer is always right" kind of rights, especially if the customer is a knowledgeable betta owner. I bet some punk kid probably put them together in that cup as a cruel prank. I never trust the groups of kids hanging around he fish at my Wal-Mart. Did anyone separate the male and female at least? I definitely agree with dramaqueen, contact corporate and politely tell them that your local Wal-Mart SUCKS!
