Not too happy

We've all had our own story, we all know Walmart sucks.. but today I was just so extremely disappointed I almost cried in the aisle. I was curious and started looking at their CT males and they had this blue and white boy in the front. He was absolutely gorgeous except this white gunk on his face and looked like he had bad ammonia burns. I feel extremely bad for leaving him behind but I can't save them all... they'll just be replaced with more cute adorable Betta's with puppy dog sad faces. :( Anyway, I decided to look around the rest of them and there was this ABSOLUTE gorgeous green/white CT boy and :( he was dead. Am so sad.. he was sooooo cute the perfect color. I think I will just spare myself from now on and avoid the pet section of Walmart all together. It's just so sad to see most of them sick and I can't believe they kept the dead ones on the shelf! Their waters were clean!! They had to have noticed the poor boys floating belly up. :( I hate my Walmart and their uncaring employees.

all the walmarts here have THANKFULLY stopped carrying bettas! I'd call and complain and write a letter IT DOES WORK! the proof is that they've all stopped carrying bettas here and in other parts of the US :)and they dont care any fish here at all

Animals are not ours to exploit for money or pleasure.

Those who would abuse animals would do so to a human without second thought.

I just went to Walmart yesterday and 2 of their males had died from rot. The scary one that turns them gray. Bot the fish that died were very pretty crowntails too. There was a third, a small purple boy, that had it starting on his left side. I would have taken him to try and get him better, but I've heard of that rot working too fast and I didn't want to risk bringing whatever it is home to my other fish. Instead we bought their 4 females, 2 of which had been there almost a month.

We got a lovely giant white female, a giant blue/green female, a giant blue marble female, and a regular poopy green female that wouldn't have ever been bought.

The white when we first saw her was absolutely gorgeous and pure white. When we got her she was almost pink with ammonia burns.

send an e-mail to the store. tell them about your experience. when the manager calls, complain to him about EVERYTHING you saw, and tell them that if things don't improve, you'll contact DHEC and your local humane society about animal cruelty, because not only are dead and rotting fish and nasty, stinky water a health hazard, they're not providing the bare minimum for those fish. x:

At my Wal-Mart, they keep the bettas in blue water, and it's so dark I can't even see the bettas. But I must admit, they have the best selection of fish tanks. The Petsmart and Petco in my area have hardly anything over a gallon, except for the huge 20-gallon tanks that I could never afford.

Yeah, I've noticed that most walmarts that do carry fish, treat them very badly.. and if you ever DO see a worker back there helping someone get a fish, they always say it isn't their job. (I've pointed out a "rotting" dead fish or two before, and even commented that their waters were going murky brown from not being cleaned) - they haven't changed since then, but they always bring in new Betta's, and they're treated the same way.
A few times when going back there I've found dead ones that were so far past starved, that their gills stood out against the thin line of their bodies. It's very sad. I tried calling about it, and even telling the head manager, but they didn't do anything. It's very irritating.

One of the last few times I checked over there before I found my little Spazzy, had been a gorgeous white/light blue marble girl, but she was dead and starting to "decay" too. :( It was very depressing - I would of gotten her without a second thought if she had still been alive.

I wish some walmarts weren't so.. well, bad. If they can't treat their fish like any other animal, they shouldn't carry them. Plain and simple. Too bad some just don't ever listen, even with complaints. :( Sorry I completely babbled off with a rant.

I've walked back to the fish section to find quite a few decaying bettas. One's water was distinctly almost black and it was mostly gone. I opened the lid to see if there had seriously been a fish in that and the smell was absolutely horrendous. Whenever I find a dead one, I just put their cups in the sink below the shelf and move some of the more unfortunate ones into the light so they can be seen better.

Every time I've been there there have been no employees in the fish section, so I couldn't complain directly to anyone. Last time I was there, one of the panels to the filters on the wall tanks was completely off and laying on the floor, leaving the filtered water exposed to everything.

Wal-Mart should hire specialists for their pet section. If they insist on selling Bettas than at least have employees that can take care of them properly...

If Walmart stops carrying fish, it is because dead fish don't make them money. Their business practice is disgusting in all departments and nothing is sacred. To them, bettas are just another commodity to pad their income.

This is a company who works to muscle in on every market they can, ( Example: ) so what complaints do do is point out to them that they are losing profits. It's why WalMart near me doesn't even have a live fish section anymore.

I'm a walmart employee and I'm a huge betta enthusiast. I encourage ppl to get a bigger tank and go to petstores to get them good food and quality products. My walmart wont sell bettas. Thank god. I have full permission to take care of them professionaly and make sure theie health is perfect. Hopefully we never get them in :( walmart really is horrible but I only work there and put up with their company's s*it until I get hired full time at a pet store. Walmar is a horrible greedy company and I promise after sam walton died the company stopped carng about customers. I hope walmart gets sued for animal cruelty so they never sell fish again. Their tiny decorative fish tanks
are way to small and over priced pieces of crap. $15 for a quater gallon, really!?
