I'm thinking maybe they went into shock after the water change?

my petco sucks with fish care. I always see them cleaning the rodents cages though.

My petco has varying degrees of goodness. I've never seen them with dirty water, maybe some food in the bottom, and some usually have SBD, but other than that most of them are either hyper or flare a lot :D

My petsmart keeps them in small shelves right by the door...which is both good and bad. They have right beneath them tiny little tanks with a DIVIDER when the tank itself is barely bigger than the cups O.o anyone who knows anything about bettas will buy a larger tank, but so many are impulse buys with a tiny tank, some pellet food (Which is what I'm trying to feed Jazz, he's not pleased, but it is a lot cheaper :/) and maybe a plastic plant. So they go fast, and they always bring out a small amount of healthy bettas, but you have to wonder what kind of homes they go to. They don't change the water enough, there are a lot of feces and uneaten food in there...so yeah. Thats just my store XP

My local petco just recently downsized the bettacup size...The halfmoons and such have the normal sized betta cups..But the veiltails are now being kept in 1/2 of the size of the normal cups...i refuse to buy a betta from there again now.

Vizja, I cringe everytime I see an impulse betta buy. Does anyone else on this forum get kind of protective of the bettas when they see someone pick one up and look at it? I want to grab it and say, "You can't have it unless you are willing to learn how to care for it properly!"

I feel like being a guard dog and growling at everyone who comes near the bettas. Granted, there are some parents out there who take great care of their kid's bettas (and they're all on this forum, hehe) but there are so many more who don't.

My petco is very good! no belly ups in the cups, water was clean. a few of the males had small nests built on the top, though they were next to the females...

I got tigger from petco...

Its very sad though. Most of the pet store employees are very bad at caring for the fish.
