Betta geno question ??

Can someone explain to me the difference between a regular half moon and a geno half moon, because it is really confusing.
My bro has some hm geno type he bought from a breeder from Thailand and they look exactly like mines. They spread 180, i don't see the difference.

An interesting article on HM genos found here
http://www.bettas4all.nl/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1991

Basically its saying bettas shouldnt be termed as "HM geno" since HM is not a result of just one gene. eg: genes that make the rays straight, genes that make the caudal spread to 180, genes that control ray splitting, genes that give a fuller apperance and also environmental factors.

^^^ I was about to link that same article... seems I'm not needed here.

HM geno is an incorrect term. Because you can't guarantee that just because you have two fish who are HM that their offspring will be HM. Yes there is a higher likelihood but when it comes to HM it's a matter of nature AND nurture.

Now, take something like DT geno.. that is caused by one gene (I believe) so you know that if you take two fish who carry the DT gene and breed them you WILL get DT in the spawn (although you will not get 100% DT).
