Darting is spastic swimming around the tank. Or if they like "wriggle" their tail too mch. It should be a more graceful swim. Im not sure how to explain it...

too much darting is bad because it can be a sigh that something is wrong as is rubbing up against objects in the tank which i think is called flashing?

Ok, I guess he is darting alot, but I've done everything to make him more comfortable, I've changed the water out twice and I've tested it and the ammonia level doesn't seem to change to a good level, if it does it's not for very long. The water seems hazy my last ditch effort is to buy a new filter.

It could be the high ammonia you mentioned, ammonia burns would hurt i'm guessing.

If nothing els, condition and age some new water and put it in a spare tank or tub, check the ammonia levels(to make sure it's not you're water) then put him in there till you figure out whats going on in your tank.
