only one guy at my local pet store, Pet Lover's, knows the difference in females. xD otherwise, i could get an HM female, a PK female(i have. :D), a CT female(i did), or any other kind of female. :d

Malaysia and Thailand is much cheaper for fish. You have large betta breeding industries there, plus many fish can be wild-caught without having to pay large prices for shipping.
Also, things tend to be cheaper in general - Australian students on a budget choose Asia over Europe (if they have any sense) because you can spend twice as long and do twice as much in Asia for half the price you can in Europe.
Except Singapore.

Life.

@Mecharoni: That's because bettas are easy to breed and raise in SE Asia. Further general expenses in our countries are much less compared to developed countries..... and they add shipping to all that. Btw how much is RM2 in US$?

In my area it depends where you get them. Fish markets (where LFS sometimes get their stock) bettas may cost 50 cents or even less depending on their quality. The better quality (HM, PK, CT) may cost 1 - 2$. VT are hard to find.

LFS may sell them for 3 - 4$. And show breeders may sell for 3 - 20$, depending on quality and breeder. Giants may be sold for 20 - 100$ depending on age/size, quality, and breeder.

*note: easy estimation. They actually cost a little less if you calculate the actual exchange rate.

They have something called a 'dragon fin' betta at our LPS (WTF?)...which are $24.99, but it just looks like a male betta with shorter fins. They're too girly to be PK's I think, I'll see if I can snap a photo next time I'm there. Weird colour on one of them too, it almost looks like a chocolate, but it could just be mustard gas and its colours havent come in.
I made a comment about this the other night here lol Our LPS which is like yours, has Longfin Dragon Fighters for $19.99 and Crowntail Fighters for $14.99. They also have "Lyretail" Fighters for $15.99. The names they are using are so funny. I am thinking the Dragons here are Super Deltas or Delta and the Lyretails are deffinately DT's.

Here regular VT's are $7.97 for male or female which is about RM27?

Eight dollars is RM27?!?!?!?!?! I need to move to there... >.>

Wow the vt in some area is way over price. Seriously I won't buy a vt. It can't improve the line. Where I'm from it hard to move the offspring even when your trying to sell them .50-$1.

jealous!!
in NZ common VTs are $25-35 depending where you go
CT usually $35-40
HM is $50-100 depending on colour
and I've never seen a pk sold as a pk in petstores I've only seen them sold as females which are $7-15 depending on size.
Some petstores have common VT females for $25.
