Hmmmm, it looks like a Veil tail to me. The shape off the back may be inflicted, is it black rimmed? Or clear rimmed? Right along the edge of the fin? He's handsome anyway :)

That's a veiltail alright. Check the edge of his tail closely if you can. If it doesn't have a red (inflammmed) or black (necrotic) color at the edge, then his tail was damaged some way. My money is on tail-biting, which is what my boy Boba is. It's almost exactly the same pattern.

rimmed- right along the edge of where it's cut. Due to mass breeding in warehouses to keep up with the demand, Veiltails and Crowntails are just kind of bred without real standard. As with my Bowser (in avatar) he is sold as a Crowntail and looks like a crowntail but you could argue that he is not, in fact, a crowntail bc of the combtail/halfmoon variety in the back tail.
Same with your fish, he is a veiltail but due to some freak genetics his tail doesn't droop. Moreover, the edge is cut or bitten, rather than natural there. :) No big deal! As long as it's treated.
