Post What do you think of adding femal bettas together?

I have a male bettas that I separated from my tetras because they were nipping his fins, and i was wondering if i get 5 female bettas will the tetras be as nippy. Theres more bettas so it wone be focused all on one betta too.

what have your experiences been? im fairly new to fishkeeping.

also, will the female bettas let the tetras eat?

Tetras only become nippy when in depleted numbers. So upping the numbers of tetras is more so your solution instead of purchasing multiple bettas. What type of tetras do you have and how many?

I was warned about fin nipping because I bought 3 tetras and a betta at the same time. I already had 4. I think it depends on numbers, the size of the tank, if it has plants for hiding places or caves etc. tetras should be in a group of at least 6 IMHO. They usually say 5 to prevent nipping.

Gone AWOL....

I know you should not keep females together unless you have a 20 gallon or bigger tank.

I have a 20 gallon and I'm thinking about

1 male betta
8 neons
6 peppered cory
4 otocinclus

I'm not sure I could fit any more than this except maybe shrimps?

I keep my females together. Mine tend to get along well so I condition them for spawning and then they go back into the sorority.

Who am I? Well I am a Junior Member of the International Betta Congress and a breeder of white HMPKs, red dragon HMPKs, black/red dragon HMPKs, metallic multi HMPKs, blue masked HMPKs, and now multi color HMs. Soon to add black HMs. I will be showing in New Breeder class in fall of 2012.

Agree with mrvampire. Mines are also in community tanks plus i have several males in different size with the females and so far they get along very well. Using them for breeding and put them back in cement tanks or regular tanks.
