I don't understand why petsitters don't understand that your instructions regarding your animals are correct. Don't they think you might actually know what is best for them?
i think it has to do with how they were brought up and the fact the fish will eat themselves silly (cant forget the hunger dance). my parents neighbor had a betta in a tiny vase, she fed a pinch of FD BW. he never ate it all BC he was in unheated water. humans assume too easily that what they can eat is a similar amount that other animals can. i told her the size of a betta's stomach but it didnt click either way. i can easily see the uninformed think they're still hungry BC they still beg for food any time you walk past the fish.

I wrote a page and a half for each of my pets when we left at Christmas!! We had a planner which they each signed (my sister and mom took turns coming up) for the betta I made strict instructions to only feed him so much, ignore the hunger dance!! lol As well as strict instructions of when to put him in the cleaned and sitting Q-tank. My Lakitu survived in the tiny .5g without a heater for a few days but it was better than asking them to clean the 2.5g and scrub off the heater and etc.. Because I knew they wouldn't. So I set out the water and just gave them a day to transfer him. :/
