I'm guessing you are in the US Sweet, and that raises the whole other issue of price of treatment, but the painful truth is you should see someone. It's not what you want to hear, and I can only suggest you try your BF's grandmother, but, if you don't heal properly, you could be in serious trouble in the future. Get a diagnosis, if it's a sprain, then all you can do is stay off it. If it's worse, then you might need something more (I've twisted my ankle before, and it was stay off it, wrapped, elevated, and that's it).

Can you walk?
Can you move your toes?
Move your whole foot?
If you can do even 2 of those....your foot is not broken.

Maybe someone already asked this but it's worth repeating if so:

Do you have a program for healthcare for those that can't afford it? For instance, in San Francisco I qualified for "Healthy San Francisco", and now in Arizona I am applying for a similar program (AHCCCS) , New York has a program like that too. (You may have to pay to be in the program but compared to health insurance, it is dirt cheap.)

2.) Don't you have a free clinic anywhere nearby? They're a little rough but if you have a serious injury you better get your butt to a doctor so you don't ruin your body forever. (Broken toes . . I don't think anyone can do anything for)

HA HA HA HA . . that is a good joke. No, you are pretty screwed in the U.S. Even the "programs" I participated in you would have to have joined previously to get help, and the criteria for getting anything free was to be below the national poverty line. the national poverty line is 20something thousand dollars a year for a family of FOUR. One year I made only about 26k because I didn't get enough work (freelance). In SF apartments are about $1500 for a studio, mine was $1200. I did not qualify for free help because I "made too much money" LOL, but I did qualify for participation in the program if I paid the highest amount.

My work doesn't pay for health insurance and I was rejected several years ago from any affordable insurance due to preexisting conditions so I pretty much gave up on applying for insurance except for special programs.

But if you live near a city you may find free clinics. They are depressing because it's a lot of drug addicts and homeless people .. but it might be your only shot.

Last winter I went to an emergency walk-in doctor in NJ when I was visiting my sister. I had an infected face that made me look like Ms Potato Head from a gum infection. They would not let me see the doctor until I gave them my credit card to hold, and they didn't give it back until after they ran it when I signed the credit card slip. I was the only one there and they acted like I might run away and not pay.

($700 later my infection was fixed. Thanks, America! That was expensive anti-biotics!)

Ive always thought our next president should be Canadian. Seeing as they seem to have the right mind. BUT not likely that would ever happen.

I am in NO way, shape, or form a moderator on this forum, but in my personal opinion this thread is getting a little close to being political in nature.

As many of us in the US know by now, Government Assisted Health Care is a touchy subject. Much like "minimum tank size" and "the best betta food" the health care topic is one that should be based on personal choice and lots of research.

Sweet, I really hope you will seek professional medical help. As someone who is currently on extended medical leave, with a chance that I will lose my job and my home, I can tell you that your health is nothing to take for granted.

Most hospitals *will* work with you on a payment plan or a sliding fee scale.

My mom's coming up from fort worth tomorrow(an hour's drive) since no one here wants to take me to the doctor because they say I don't need one, that I'm fine, and that my job can't fire me for not getting a doctor's note. I guess I'll go to the ER since I can't find any walk in clinics that don't require insurance, except for the minute clinic in CVS, and seeing as my foot keeps tingling(the going to sleep feeling) and I can't support my weight with it, their website points to them simply referring me to someone more expen-I mean, a specialist. The grandmother says I don't need a doctor nor can I afford one, especially since she went to talk to MY BOSS and he was like 'yeah, we won't fire her, but she has to find someone to cover her shifts while she recovers'. I don't even have my schedule for next week, how am I supposed to do that?

Yeah. I'm in the US. Texas to be specific. Wish I lived in Canada, or the UK, or just SOMEWHERE with some kind of free health care. I don't care how controversial it is, if we had it, I wouldn't be sitting here wondering if I'm going to be crippled for the rest of my life over an ankle sprain/strain/break/whatever.

I can wiggle my toes, and I can move my foot, but in certain directions it's too painful to move it. Can't put ANY weight on it or it feels like it's on fire. I remember a friend of mine got torn ligaments on a church camp trip and they gave him vicodin. Meanwhile I sit here and try the drown the pain in ibuprofin. Not only that, but now my entire leg hurts from holding it up, and my other leg feels like it's going to fall off from having to hop around on crutches. Plus I feel terrible because I can hear my rats are out of water, but I can't stand long enough to give them more. :( They'll have to wait until the boyfriend gets home.

I know I should have insurance, but private insurance is so expensive it'd probably take most of my paycheck, and my job doesn't have benefits. I almost wish it'd happened at work so I could get worker's comp. Like I said, wishing I lived in canada right now.

I'm going to go to a place called CareNow around here that I don't believe requires one to be insured and may let me do a payment plan seeing as they have an online bill pay, which means they don't squeeze you for money right there. And while they didn't have the machines to take care of my boyfriend when he was having some serious sinus headaches, they were very kind and helpful. I don't agree with them charging so much for telling us nothing, but they did pump him with some meds, and they did take us after the official 'no more people' cutoff point. And let him pay later, though they bugged him about it over the phone. I figure I'll pay a little bit then, then assure them as soon as I'm back at work I'll pay it off. Surely an examination, maybe an x ray, and a cast of some form wouldn't cost that much. Boyfriend's going to help me with bills while I get back on my literal feet.
