De-rimming an aquarium?

Has anyone here ever de-rimmed their aquarium? I bought a brand new cheap 20L aquarium from Petco today and wanted to know how to safely de-rim this thing w/o creating a leak. Anyone know how to do this? (I know I've seen posts about this in the past....)

Thanks in advance...

Saw the corners and use a chisel.
However this can make an aquarium less stable, so be careful when you fill it.

Rimless aquariums are designed to function safely and reliably without a rim. They use thicker glass and better quality adhesives. Their price reflects the higher quality.

Rims are put on cheaper tanks (like Aqueon) to provide security and safety. As a mechanical engineer, I recommend you NOT remove the rim, especially in a tank that size.

Look around. You can find tanks without rims, especially in the smaller sizes (<25g) commonly used for Betta.
