Understocking a tank is best for a beginer.

I recommend Rosy Barbs. Hardy, peaceful, energetic, colourful and their adult size is about 3" - perfect for this sort of tank. They like to be kept in groups of about 6 and will mix with most other fish.
I also recommend Angelfish. They are quite large so are a good centrepiece for a tank of this size and, once settled in, are very hardy. However they are not as easy to keep as a lot of other fish and I would recommend adding either one or a group (from the same tank in the store) once the tank has established its cycle.

Please stay away from fish labelled 'algae eaters'. They are messy, grow to a very large size and produce a huge amount of waste. They will uproot plants, dirty the tank very quickly and make your life hell. I learnt the hard way

Otos are good algae eaters. I would stay away from angelfish.

I agree with ChoclateBetta. Angelfish should be left to the more experienced fishpeople.

Are you just going to put one species of fish in the tank (species tank) or many species? (community tank)

I think you could put at least 15-20 corycats alone to satisfy one of those size tanks, but I assume you'd want a more attractive tank than just many fish of the same kind.

All males or 1 male to 2 female ratio. In my entire male tank there is one adult female. There are many females close to adulthood.

Well, most guppies eat their eggs anyway.

I knew they're live bearers *slaps self in head* but I've read in books they do cannibalize.
