petsmart/petco donations for homeless animals

hello! everytime i purchase something at the petsmart or petco cash register counter, i agree to donate a couple of dollars for homeless animals as other people do. i was curious...... is the money given used to really help homeless animals? my friend's daughter worked at wendy's where they ask for donations to help children who are orphaned, but only a super small percentage of it is used to help them. so thought of this came also came up. only wondering .... :)

I do the same thing, I always add on a dollar (I go several times a week, sometimes, so it adds up, haha). I hope most of it really does reach the intended targets. One thing someone might do is write to the Petsmart and/or Petco headquarters and ask. I think they might be required by law to disclose how they spend donations?

I don't do it, I'd give directly to an animal shelter or rescue after some research. You could look it up online as to how Petsmart spends the money.

Our Petco also does adoptions. My dad doesnt like the cat people. They get upset if dogs are near the cats and they have that adoption in the Cat section.

hmm...... thank you. the petsmart charity website says they use donated money for spay/nueter clinics among other things but was hoping for specifics on how money is spent.
i've decided to stop donating money to the pet stores anyway... and use the money i would have donated to give to an animal shelter... atleast it'll be money well spent.
thank you y'all!

seems like a legitimately worthwhile donation, which is unusual thing these days. most "charities" take a huge percentage of your donation and funnel it into their directors' pockets, or into lobbying and buying politicians to further the political agendas of the corporate suits.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth.
