I just found out recently that schools today are way different than they are today. I knew for a while that they were of course different, itís just a lot different than I thought they were....
Starting off with classes: Right now, I'm ending my 8th grade year in a science magnet school. As I found out just a few months ago, some of the courses that I'm taking now werenít even offered 5 years ago! I'm not sure which ones are new and which ones are not, but some of these are Pre-vet 1&2, Marine bio 1&2, Computer programming, and Archeology. Those were some of the courses I've taken. Some of the courses that I didn't take are Pre-med 1,2 &3, Architecture, Speech and Debate, Bio tech, Space science, Forensic, Robot engineering, Computer science(I have no idea what that is, and Iíve been told that the title is misleadingÖ), golf, and there are plenty more that I know of but donít remember them at the moment.
The learning environment: In my school the teachers go far and beyond to make sure that each child is grasping the subject, whether itís a standard class or an elective. Of course there are a few who donít do this, but for the majority the teachers are pretty awesome. I would even go as far as that they sometimes feel like family friends instead of teachers who just do their jobs. I have many teachers whoíll stand behind my back when something is wrong, and many are willing to understand many hardships and will do anything to help me get out of it! And I think not only the teachers are changing, but it seems to be the technology as well. When I started out in 6th grade our standard state testing was all though paper and booklets, and now the 6th and 7th have to do the reading and math on computers. Iíve also noticed that I too will be using a computer for testing, but it will be my EOCís
The students: Now Iím not sure if we really have changed much. I think most of us have dragged our feet though school, carrying a burden of homework, books, and school supplies. But think that the students today are slower, more dependent, lazier, harsher, and have a big lack of understanding of most things. This can be majorly debatable because Iím going on what Iíve seen and heard from my teachers, school, ect. Most of the students I have to deal with need the teacher every single moment, theyíre quick to judgment, most donít have full comprehension of the subject even after 2 months on a single subject, and easily distracted.
WowÖ I feel like I wrote an outline for an essay in my language art class XD. Sorry if this seems long and boring, it just came to my mind as an interesting topic to discuss about.
