Honestly, everyone overseas always goes on about our spiders and snakes but I have never been bitten by a spider or snake even when my mum's dad, her ex-partner and my grandparents owned country properties that we visited very regularly.
I have seen maybe a dozen or so snakes. One I was running through the paddock and only saw it at the last moment, another I bent down to pick up a piece of rubbish and realised that the snake was curled up right next to it.
I am more terrified of animals that can chase me down and maul me to death like a black or brown bear. At least with a snake I may have a chance of defending myself but a bear would just mow me down and rip me to shreds.
I do not understand why Americans/Canadians don't see how scary some of their wildlife is. I watch some nature shows with people getting mauled by bears or being stomped on by deer or elk and I wouldn't even go on a bush walk if I thought those kinds of animals were lurking around haha.
This is in reply to Laki by the way.
