Venus Flytraps Anyone else grow them? Pics please!

Hey just wondering if anyone else here grows flytraps? Here are a few pics of my traps today. I think flytraps and betta are great companion hobbies. Post pics of your carnivorous plants please!

Ive got a venus fly trap. They are real fun plants, mines in hibernation at the mo but it started growing huge last year, usually I cant keep plants alive so this one is a pretty bug success lol. Had a picther plant in with it aswell but it kept filling itself up with bugs faster than it could grow new pitchers so it died, it also came with some sundews but they dont seem to be able to catch much

Yeah they are fun plants. That hibernation period is really important to them. Im going to be propagating the flytraps via tissue culture method. Venus Flytraps are an amazing plant that seems to work very well in my terrariums. Also fun to feed them my little nephews were just amazed. Oh I just figured out that in NZ it is winter so that's why yours are in hibernation and mine in full grow mode.

I messed up the hibernation period for mine. I assume that's why they died.

I don't have any but my teacher at high school did and I think they are cute and cool. How do you take care of them?

There are a few things to remember growing flytraps.

1. They like humidity so I keep them covered in a terrarium cuz the air is dry here.

2. Never water them with tap or spring water. use rain water or distilled.

3. Soil needs to be 75% Canadian peat moss with 25% silica sand.

4. Do not fertilize like other plants.

5. They like fairly bright light. My aquarium lights work well with a cfl 6500.

6. The dormant period is important. They need to regroup and need cool temps 2c to 10c with a shorter light period for about 3 months in winter.

7. don't false trap them by pressing trigger hairs with no fly. The traps will usually only open and close 3-4 times before it kinda wears out.

Oh Im sure there is more but this is off the top of my head and I should be in bed. Every time lil nephew comes over he brings flys with him lol drives the sister nuts.

Oh my parents had some of those when I was a kid, I used to love watching my dad feed them! But I really haven't seen one since...and that was 20 some odd years ago.
