Definitely move to Brisbane. Then you will be right near Fishchick Aquatics. Only thing is that it can be pretty bad with floods up in QLD. But then again a flood probably beats a bushfire.

Well, there's Fishchick, and...actually, that's it.

I kid. There are some other breeders out there but they aren't as well known or well-resourced. Certainly there's not much in Canberra. Still, you occasionally find some beauties even in the petshops. None of mine are stunners, but their personalities are wonderful, and their tails are lovely. I got sold a plakat male along with three females, as he was mis-identified, and they all share their tank with each other very happily, so I was super lucky in that regard. It could have been a total disaster.

Life.

I dunno, I think the betta scene in Australia is definitely growing, especially over the past couple of years. We had our first two IBC sanctioned shows (one in Melbourne and one in QLD) and there's been a couple of betta specific FB pages created in the past few months that are very active.

I think it depends where you live, but it seems QLD and Victoria are the states with the biggest betta scene. Or maybe it's just that those two states have the most vocal online hobbyists haha.

@LittleBettaFish -- the fish in your avatar -- is it yours? and what kind is it -- also is it a female? I'm new to the forum and to betta fish.
Thanks.

That is a Betta hendra, a species of wild betta. It is a male and yep he is mine. In fact I'm looking at him right now as he guards a nest of freshly hatched fry.

Thank you @LittleBettaFish. He's beautiful.
I think mine is a female Veil, but I'm not really sure. Still looking! But, she's beautiful and is my first fish. (For my 70th birthday!)

UPDATE -- I think it may be a Crown Tail -- don't have a really good picture yet.
