Eastern Iowa Aquarium Association and the Greater Iowa Reef Society (There's also a Greater Iowa Aquarium Association in Davenport I think...)

tony at the betta shop in st.paul was interested in starting a club, wonder how that is going. i also wonder if dr.gene lucas is still in des moines. he is/was a college biology professor there. he has written 2 books about bettas. he is one of the top breeders in iowa. there was a midwest chapter of the ibc,but i think they are inactive now due to poor attendance.

That's neat. What college did/does he teach at? If it's in DSM it's probably Drake or Grandview, but Iowa State is just 40 minutes away too.

Hmm.. I wonder if he is the guy who came into the store once and told me he bred Betta and chewed me out for pronouncing it wrong (I know how to properly pronounce it, I just chose not to.)

The mom of: Too many to list now.

If you google it, there's a webpage that shows membership fees and all that jazz. GIRS has their own website but I don't think Eastern Iowa Aquatics does. As far as I know GIRS is based out of Waterloo but they usually have meetings down here in Iowa City.

I used to breed bettas about 15 or so years back in Des Moines, I remember meeting some guy in Aqualand when that was really the only show in town who bred them too but don't know if it's the same guy he sold me quite a few really awesome bettas though, I remember that. (and I agree it's horrid the owner thinks he knows so much and can be quite rude.)

i looked up history of ibc and dr.lucas is the founder of the ibc. there is a pic of him on the ibc history page. go to ibc home page and hit the blue "about us" button.
