I use several methods to rid my tank of unwanted snails:
Trap-I use a clean small glass or plastic jar and place an algae wafer or lettuce in it when I turn the lights off at night and remove the next day.
Bait alone with a piece of lettuce or any green veggie either float or stick a fork in it to sink (I tie fishing line on it to make it easier to pull out)(I do this too when I am feeding my plecos fresh veggies) and pull out as the snails attach to feed on it.
And as stated by 1fish, overfeeding will cause population increase with snails, they reproduce faster with more food.
I destroy the snail by placing them in between newspaper and smashing them and then throwing them in the trash, some I will smash and feed to the fish without the shells.
