Now i'm just waiting for someone to explain to my why flip flops in australia are called thongs...
Actually, it all stems from a much more innocent use of the word. Thong, originally, just refers to a thin strip of leather. It was used first to describe thong sandals, and only in the last 25 years has it come to refer to the undergarment. The term is also used in weaponry, and I've read it used in every day situations in books that were about older times (like... the man took a thong and bound the wood together)
So the term thong is much more proper
but you know that's not what most people think about anyway
And as to the shopping cart thing... people are big drama queens. That happened to my mom when I was with her, and she was turning the cart around (seriously.. how momentum can a cart gather simply turning!?) and she barely bumped a lady but the woman went on and on non stop yelling at mom. Mom appologized a few times, and after a few minutes gave up and told her to stop being such a drama queen. She went into this whole speel about being pregnant and calling my mom a murderer, because apparently being touched on your hip puts a 1 or 2 month fetus' life in jeapordy (If I had known this when I was pregnant, I never would have left my room! lol) just a LITTLE dramatic... don't you think? She tried to curse mom out in spanish as she was walking away, but I turned to her and proceeded to chastise her immaturity and bad manners in fluent spanish. Then she just shut up and left. Oh, on top of all this... my daughter was with us. She was 2 at the time. What a great mom she'll make, cursing in 2 different languages in front of a 2 year old little girl (a bilingual one none the less!)
Some people are just.... self absorbed and childish.
