Ezzie, I had the same problem when I worked at IGA. "Hi, how are you today?" "..."
Then they'd stand there watching me as I scanned and bagged $200 worth of shopping. No conveyor belts here, the bags are right there for the customers to help out. Wouldn't move filled bags out of the way. They'd just stare at me as I tried to find a place to put thirty bags on the end of my tiny till. And then they'd say "Can you hurry up a bit? I'm in a rush."
It wasn't even a fancy area. It was a hole.
That's why I'm always nice to my checkout people. Because it's not as easy as people think. I say "Hi, how are you?" and I thank them before I leave.
