My Saturday sucked. And now my birthday is sucking too. Saturday my mom left me a list of things to do before we could go to my grandparents' house. I did as much as I could before I had to go out with my dad to take my kid sister to her religious class. Then we picked up strawberries for my cake. we got home and I got right back to my list and started making cake. my mom came home and instantly it was like "why aren't you prepared you should have done more I hate going out" etc. Then I spilled a pot of boiling water on my hand. Mom stopped griping until I came downstairs to make the rest of my cake (with a hand wrapped in gauze) and was mad she had to make potato salad and that I hadn't finished the cake yet. Blah blah blah, the mixer wouldn't work, the icing was crap, I missed my religious class etc. At one point my dad said "Is mom yelling again?" and I just started crying. My sister bossed everyone at my birthday lunch and today she won't stop screaming and being nasty and now my mom is going to be yelling at everyone a day. I think I'll stay in my room. To be fair, I think my mom is really stressed and angry because my grandparents are living free in a house my dad bought for them. She's angry because they never encouraged my dad to make anything of himself and he built himself up out of nothing, owns 2 houses, one of which he bought for my grandparents. She's angry because they seem to favor my uncle over my dad, who is so responsible and takes care of his whole family. She's angry because of unfairness, and she just doesn't know where to direct that anger. She had a hard family life and she's upset for my dad. I just wish that she could be less stressed.
Typing this has made me cry. I'm sorry for whining.

I made a mistake, I think. I impulsively got my ears pierced again using the money I was going to get several female bettas. Now I have two female bettas verses the four or six I could have gotten. I have an empty half gallon tank but now I am trying to find the little plastic plant that was in it and decide if I should put Emma or Regina into the little tank. I am afraid that two female bettas in a twenty gallon is just too few and Regina will pick on Emma (or the other way around) So far they are not interacting with each other to my knowledge. I should have done either the ear piercing and put the female bettas off until next week or forget the ear piercing and gotten the right amount of female bettas. I feel so stupid.

Fish caretaker for twenty some years, but still a newbie at somethings.

Also looking for a free 3d model of a betta fish to use to make my avatar.

You could put one of the females in a breeder box until you can either get a better separate tank or buy more females.

Bettas - Giovanni (HM), Burly (HMPK Giant).

I think my heater for my community is on the fritz. I checked the temperature and it was nearly 90f I turned it down and no one seems to be hurt but I didn't want to cook a couple HUNDRED dollars worth of fish! 4$ per guppy 6 per gourami 5 per cory 15 for my male Betta yeah just not up to even trying to replace them all I'll have to keep an eye on the heater

For anyone that follows dogs, a little while ago there was a lot of uproar in regard to a German Shepherd shown at Crufts. Basically the dog presented as an over-angulated, nervy mess.

I thought this might herald an actual change for moderate, more functional conformation, as over the past few years it seems over-angulation and this ghastly looking peaked topline is becoming firmly entrenched in our show dogs (conformation bred GSDs in Australia resemble those shown in Germany rather than the American show lines).

Today I read a statement from the president of the SV and it seems to say a great deal about nothing. It comes across as being more about protecting the image of the breed, rather than truly addressing the root of all these problems. In their opinion the issue of over-angulation will go away if the dogs are allowed to stand in a natural stack rather than be manipulated into position by their handler. Never mind that when you see these same dogs moving from the rear, the hocks are so close together and unstable that if it was asked to go too slow it would be in danger of losing its balance. I agree that a bad stack can make a dog look worse than it is, but when you see these same dogs outside of the show ring and there are still the same issues with over-angulation, there's obviously a problem with the dog's structure, not its handling.

It's just very disappointing, especially when people that voice concerns about the direction the breed is heading in are told they don't understand, because they aren't a part of the strange, insular world that is conformation showing. If we keep burying our heads in the sand, there will eventually be consequences, especially with the shift in attitude of the public towards showing and purebred dogs.

Little Betta I've noticed this too, golden retrievers are getting shorter their legs are slowly shrinking... Australian Shepherds are getting shorter bodies, bull terriers noses are turning down so much they are beginning to Have problems eating. The show standards are destroying dog breeds

So I have this new DTHM and I noticed his fins were ruined while my mom said that he was fine and happy and such, so I posted it here and waited for five hours while people viewed it and no one helped and my fish's health went down the toilet. Then I check in the morning and he had been diagnosed with clamped fins, fin rot, and fin melt..and other people were deciding that I should go out and get more expensive food and feed him four pellets twice a day, and another person (who I've decided to listen to) said that I should fast him for three to five days while I treated him for fin rot. Then there was a debate on whether or not I should be having a heater. Some people said it had to be at the max, of 86 degrees. The person I'm listening to said that I should keep him well below that in the 70s but keep the air humid and warm above his water. So turns out he does have fin melt, and I have to run to the store and get stuff, but I can't because I don't have a license and I don't know if my friend is going to come and pick me up today or tomorrow, but I don't know how long he has. He's floating and trying to dive, but...his butt just floats up. So that rant aside, let me explode on another subject.

Why I can't go out and buy 20 gallon tanks and heaters and filters and expensive food: I no longer have a dad. Our income has been cut in half, maybe more than half. We barely squeak by, and now that I need to have a license to drive to college, that will put us even lower. We may end up cutting back on things like food or my mom will never be around due to having a second job. I can't get a job yet because I would have no transportation to get there as everything is a half hour away from us...by car. The town I went to school to (which was fifteen minutes away by driving) took my brother and I four hours to get home by walking...in the summer heat of Illini. Also, court. Weeee, court. And the possibility of testifying against my father. Weeee. It's like everything explodes the moment I look away. I can't leave anything unattended. I left a baby bird with an uncle and didn't learn that it was dead till two days later. I left another baby bird on a shelf in the way back and it wound up being eaten. /Then/ I leave my newest fish in the hands of my mother and it will probably die because I can't get to a pet store...

By the way, this rant thread was found at a very good time. But too late. I'm planning on leaving the forum as soon as I figure out how.

To you, they're just fish. To me, they're just my greatest friends

This is why I hate leaving my bettas in someone else's care 😭 I went away camping for 2 days and the 'feed them 4 pellets ONLY' rule was majorly broken. 😔 I hope Draco can shake this off and feel better soon. He's not even swimming to greet me anymore, he just lies on the bottom.

Rant over.
