How to QT fish before adding them to the tank..

Hey everyone. For Christmas I am thinking of doing a tiny aquarium. A 10 gallon cycled, planted tank with pygmy cories, shrimp, and neon tetras, and maybe something else without over stocking it.

I know I'm going to have to spend some time getting it to cycle, I'm planning on doing a fishless one. And you're suppose to add only a few fish at a time right? But the cories need to be in a group of 5 or 6? So put all of them in at the same time? Or just 3 at a time?

Also, my boyfriend added some killer sickness to his tank from local petstores and I don't want to do that with my tank lol So I would like to QT the fish before putting them in. Which would be a lot I suppose... But how would I go about doing that?

What size tank? For how long? Should I forget about QT?

Thank you!! :]

Once your tank is cycled, go ahead and add 3 at a time, then after maybe 4-7 days add the other three. However, when you are adding the fishis, make sure you are constantly monitoring your water params daily to make sure you don't get an ammonia spike.

As for qt, here is what I would do. Buy a clear sterlite bin, and buy one species. keep them in there (with your heater) and watch for sickness for about a week. Introduce them into the tank, and clean the sterlite bin, and if you only have one heater, float it in your 10 gallon to keep it warm. Add your next species and qt for another week. after you introduce them, clean and repeat floating your bin in the tank. It'll take a while to get your fishies all in, but it'll work, seeing as it's a good idea to wait at least a week between adding more fish to tanks.
