They are definitely NOT for fish! I'm glad you stopped them! :)

I just think they are cute little tanks and I think plants, shrimps, and snails would be awesome in them! :D

OOO. I love this idea. But I heard that shrimp are really sensitive to water.

Yeah, the only thing I'd be concerned about is the maintaining of water quality if you decide to put a shrimp in there. Those are some really cute tank ideas, though!

I'll think maybe I'll just try planting one first before I add anything to it! If I can get enough small plants in there maybe it will work out?? I'll have to experiment with it and see :P

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, maybe it can be my Christmas break project :)

What kind of substrate should I use? Soil, sand, or something else? Or does it even need substrate? I have some marimo balls I could even cut up and place between some mesh that I could try to get to grow to make it like grass.

I would do that with Marimo. If you have a real marimo (it sinks) It'll probably just grow spherically when you cut it up. (they naturally do this). An actual moss would be best though I can't really recommend anything as I haven't started planting yet. I'd go somewhere like:

Aquatic Plant Central
Planted Tank .Net
Or any other aquascaping or aquatic plant site and look for a nano tank sub forum to browse though. =] You can look at other people's projects and learn from their successes and mistakes. =]
