don't get an aussie! those are the most annoying little things, theres one next door and it NEVER shuts up!!!

also, you didn't mention it in your possibilities list, but many people have said schnauzers. i babysited/petsited a mini one over the summer. she was such a sweetie, but her grooming needs were crazy. she was very high-strung also.

another one to stay away from is a boxer. (same babysiting/petsiting as before mentioned) they have SO much energy, and they have the biggest tounges you will ever see! it can be irritating when he never stops licking you...

overall, most purebreeds i've dealt with are very high-strung and are have many quirks. i vote for adopting from a shelter. if you really want a pure-breed, then there are plenty of breed rescues that have very nice dogs. please look at your local shelters, you might save a life.

oh! a breed i do suggest is a lab!! i have a lab mix, and she's the nicest old girl, most labs & mixes i've met have been very good, well-behaved dogs! and now, cause everyone else's doing it (haha), here's my girl, Sandie:

Or a mastiff! lol
Yeah, schnauzers are cute but they are like little rubber balls, bouncing all over the place. I have an 87 year old neighbor who has a schnauzer yorkie mix and she is extremely hyper and not even housebroken.. My poor neighbor shgould have gotten an older dog and one that was calm and housebroken.

yeah, I really dont understand why elderly people get puppies. That's how I got my dog, well my mutt, off craigslist. the lady passed away and he was 11 months old. 11 MONTHS! and he was so unsocialized. he had never been on a leash, never played fetch, was trained on puppypads and rarely went outside, was terrified of guys, terrified of loud noises (as in, if three people were talking at once excitedly).. it was a joke.

Well then me and a Aussie are a perfect match - I never shut up either! XD
Small dogs get under my feet a lot, and attack me... I wonder why...
Great dane? That is a little too big XD It would run over me!

How about a Cavalier King Charles? They're only the cutest puppies and have a lot of energy but also know when to just be quiet lap dogs.

It's being repeated because it's an excellent suggestion. Why even ask a forum for an opinion if you're just going to poo-poo everything?

If your looking at a more medium sized dog, a Shetland Sheep Dog (Sheltie) might work. They are very smart, easy to train and have lots of energy. They do tend to get attached to one person and I have seen other peoples' dogs that bark a lot if not trained well. They are lovely, friendly and energetic dogs overall!

Here is mine
