Unhappy I Think I Killed Him:(

Well my friend moved to a different house and he had a betta living in a bowl with bamboo plant eating the "Roots", I tried telling them that they're carnivores but they said that their not but hellow I have 6 bettas. I'm really sad I did a water changeand all and when I put him inhe just didn't move but then he twiched and went to get air and now he's not moving. I don't now what to do or tell them:'(

I'm sorry :(

I'm going to sound mean here, but it was pretty well your friend's fault. Since all the betta supposedly ate were the roots, he would've been very weak and malnourished... and the water change probably gave him quite a bit of a shock. Search up on Google what betta fish eat and show it to your friend... or better yet, when more people respond, show your friend this thread.

Definitely don't give him a betta. Try and educate your friend about fish, get him to read a few things about basic betta care (GOOD basic betta care! There are so many bad articles out there) or get him to join the forum so he can learn more before he gets another one.

I agree, I don't think you should your friend a betta. Inform him about what happened and why. Tell him to do some research (facts, not this so called facts).

I do agree that the water change likely shocked the fish. Did you acclimate him? Anyway, I hope your friend at least becomes more informed.

OK and The betta that he has looked really old. Probably he couldn't stand the water change since he's really old. Hes really large.

That's good! I'm gald he's alive. D: That've been terrifying if he did die....
I agree with all the previous posters though. Printing out a decent article about betta care or showing this thread (or heck, tell him to join this site!) should show him what he's doing wrong.

I hope the betta gets better.
QUICK!
SEE IF HE'LL EAT! lol
I'm gonna assume he's been just eating the bamboo roots... that your friend didn't even get him fish food.

He was most likely just malnourished. A properly cared for betta can live 4-5 years.

If he is alive, get him into a proper betta setup and betta food ASAP.

It is just shocking how someone thinks CARNIVORES eat vegetation, it is just plain ignorant and stupid of your friend, no offense.
