I don't think age has anything to do with maturity. There are some 12-13 year olds that are very responsible and mature and there are some 35 year olds that are about as mature as 5 year olds.

There's one that's ten minutes from my house.

I want to apply for a job this summer and my mom thinks that I should apply there. I'll be fifteen in July and I told her I doubt they'd hire me when I'm only fourteen (I'd need a work permit either way) and she said "They'd definitely take YOU at fourteen."

I'm organized, I'm responsible, and I've had plenty of animal experience.

When I was little I had a goldfish that lived for five years, we've had at least one dog for as long as I can remember, we've always had cats and have two at the moment, one of which belongs to me, we have had a guppy tank for the last seven years, and for the past seven months I've owned my Bettas :) I also took riding lessons at a stable for five years and have leased for two but had to stop because of money issues, amongst other things.

Do you think I'd stand a chance for getting hired? I mean, I know that a lot of people are looking for jobs and the likelihood of a fourteen year old getting hired is a bit difficult, but I'm not planning on applying until about a month before my fifteenth birthday, which means I'll be on summer vacation and I'll have the ability to work every day if necessary.

That's part of the reason why I'm waiting to apply- if I wait until the summer I can technically work 40 hours a week (I read up on child labor laws in my state, it's only 18 hours a week during school, but during a non school week a minor can work 40 hours) but I'm going to apply for a part-time job there, so it'd be 30 hours a week or less.

My older brother is going to be eighteen in September and has his license, as do both my parents (Obviously) so getting rides there wouldn't be difficult and I could ride my bike there in a pinch.

Do you think I have enough animal experience to stand a chance for getting a job there? I'd be fine doing anything, be it cleaning fish tanks or sweeping aisles, it's just that I'm running on $15 a week right now and I have a concert to pay for, fish supplies to buy, and I'm saving for a new guitar, so I'd like to have something where I can make more money.

Thanks :)
I say go for it! If I was old enough to get a job, I would. One thing though, goldfish usually live for 30 years.

I only have 1 betta left, but he's a cool blue marble!

Well, it wasn't a comet goldfish, I don't even know what it was XD

It was one of those little pet goldfish that a ton of kids have.... And seeing as we only had it in like a 5 gallon tank by itself and I was about 3 I think that's a decent accomplishment XD I mean, not so much now.... But for a 3 year old, definitely XD

I think it's definitely worth making the effort for, especially as a local store. You're responsible, mature, experienced, motivated, and the list goes on. You just have to put forth the effort and show them how much you want the job, check up on your application status if you haven't heard from them in a couple days, push for an interview! When my friend was 13 she got a summer job at a gift shop and every summer she returned to that job for like 5 years, she's 25 now. She was a very determined and motivated individual and the store owner saw that right away.

Best of luck! :D

I'd say go for it, but I know our petstores hire bubbly idiots for lack of a better phrase. So make sure to perk it up when your there, and push the fact that you can get there. Employers tend to see the not being to get yourself to work as a bad thing because you never know. Also, those little goldfish pets, are just smaller comets :/

Fishie Friends:

38: In Progress to be divided for 2 males, and a center sorority!

Furry Friends:

One FAT beagle Winston

3 Mischievous Cats: Bahgeera, Ballo, Gibby

One not so cuddly rabbit: Cadburry
