My dog's a killer!!!!

Some of you might remember a little while ago I started a thread about my new rescue dog, Stella. She's probably a Chihuahua/Yorkie mix.

WELL. She's a killer dog. She isn't the frail and gentle dog she started as (she was recovering from surgery) At least she's smart (learned her named and potty trained in under a week!) But, she's killed 2 geckos and a baby bird )= That Yorkie in her has given her some fine hunting skills. Everytime I start petting our Corgi she gets jealous and licks his face and leaps over him to steal the attention (she also gave him the kennel cough) Sigh.

But she's a keeper, still . She absolutely adores people! She is super playful and teaching my corgi (after 3 years living as an only dog) how to behave around dogs again (he tends to get over excited and trample the dogs, even ones 2x his height )

I just hope we can break her killing habit x.x

I hope you can train her out of it.

That must be the terrier in her speaking when she kills things. LOL

Aww poor geckos and birds. :( That's great that she's learning so quickly though! Perhaps you could train her to leave small animals alone. But with some dogs, that prey instinct is just too strong and there's nothing that can really be done. I know my dog can't even be trusted around small dogs, his prey drive is so high.

If her jealousy continues or gets worse, that is probably something you could work with her on; it's not quite as instinctual as the hunting drive, so dogs will often respond to training when it comes to issues like that.

My dogs have killed chipmunks before... I figured that they just trampled it when they were chasing it. They bring them in the house though...

The dog I used to walk caught a chipmunk one time. I was not about to take it out of his mouth so we stood on the porch until he dropped it then I kicked it across the porch so he couldn't get hold of it again. lol He looked funny standing there with the chipmunk in his mouth with the legs sticking out. lol
