River Monsters: Love it? Hate It?

This thread is about River Monsters, a show on Animal Planet.

A guy goes around the world, looking for freshwater fish that are really, really big and a hazard to humans. He fishes for them, catches them, makes his observations and (usually) lets them recover and go free.

This show, I feel, is very educational and brings up a lot of interesting topics such as invasive species and unusual fish behavior/adaptations.

He does have to catch the fish in order to do so. Is this wrong? Or is it necessary evil to research?

I want to see him fish for the loch ness monster but this show is called River Monsters, not Loch Monsters, *sigh*...

I love that show! The fish are really interesting.

I only have 1 betta left, but he's a cool blue marble!

I love his show. He speaks a lot to responsible fishing and gives a lot of education.

For instance here in Georgia many people kill Alligator Gar as soon as they catch one, even if they weren't intending to catch one because there is a stigma against them that makes people believe they're killers This has caused them to become endangered and his entire show on the Gar was eye opening and hopefully someone learned something about them.

I don't think catching them is evil. He's a professional and he knows how to catch them with the least amount of harm done to the fish and he always releases them back, with the exception of one time when he was with a group of villagers who needed the fish for food.

I LOVE this show. It's so interesting seeing what is beneathe the surface like the Pacu that was introduced to place it wasn't supposed to or the giant catfish.

(What episode was the one with the ray?)

Lelouch of the Petsmart Rebellion - Orchid VT

Yugi - German Sheperd/Pitbull mix. The real King of the house.

Eek... Pacu! My bf got the heebee jeebies watching that episode! 0_0

I think there have been a couple of different ray episodes... the one I'm thinking of, after the ray was caught, it started having babies (probably from the stress of the catch). It was an exhausting catch for the guy, and I think he tore a muscle bringing it in... no wonder it was resisting so hard!
