LPS has them for $40. I bet LFS could get them in and sell them cheaper. Dunno. It's my favourite fish ever.
I had one of those years ago! He was pretty cool.
I also had black ghost knife fish...and brown knife fish/clown knife fish. My clown knife got to about 2' long or so.
My holy grail fish would be some sort of ray...one of these days I'll have a ray!!!

I read that and looked over.. he was staring at me. Goofy little guy! I see different personality in all my fishies. Especially Bettas.

And.. Smackdown? Like, are they going to wrestle you?

You will always be my best friend, .

They would confront me very angrily. Because on the chance that the BGK will reach 20" I DON'T have a tank that can hold it.

Nawh. Elephant nose are peaceful with other species. Recommended tank mates include bichir, butterfly fish, ctenopoma, congo tetra.. everything that's going in the tank.

Elephant noses just shouldn't be kept with other mormyrids. My LFS has those too but I can't remember what they were charging. Oh, they had datnioids too. The medium sizes on were $79. They had tiny baby ones for 2 for $15.

EDIT:
Relic, me too! I want a motoro ray someday.

What do you think Sakura? African knife or elephant nose? Gah. I've heard so many horror stories of them starving themselves to death though. Maybe I shouldn't.

Elephant noses need small live foods like daphnia, white worms, and brine shrimp to thrive. If you could set up a live food culture of, ideally, daphnia, they might have a chance. Otherwise, I'd say the African knife.

OH. But.. the LPS also have the synodontis species I wanted. High fin Syno.. longest whiskers of its family.
It's at least 4" and only $10. If it's still there when the tank is up.. I'm getting it.

Also, Mr. V said that keeping males and females divided off from each other is totally safe.. So I'm thinking of dividing the 15 off a 4th way to give Maja more room.. Then I'd have an empty 2.5 gallon. You know where that leads.

Cool! I hope the syno is still there for you. :)

Yeah, I've kept males and females divided. The only problem I had was my female got eggy and then depressed that she wasn't breeding, and it took her a week to poo out all the eggs she ate after she dropped them. It was rather . . . gross.
