Discus are no more difficult to keep than any other fish. The internet is so full of misinformation it's ridiculous! All this "PH has to be perfect/hard water is no no...They need high temps...you have to do daily water changes...blah blah blah" Hardly any truth to most of what is on the net. I am thinking of keeping discus and was kind of on the fence with em because I've heard they are so difficult to keep. Luckily I live not to far from one of the top discus breeders/distributors in the country. I contacted him and he really opened my eyes to discus fish keeping. If you want large show quality discus then yes..your water parameters have to be perfect, warmer temps are fine but they are perfectly happy in "normal" temp ranges from 78-82. I was concerned about the hard water we have around here and he told me "I use the same water you'll be using"..Then I asked him about the daily water changes..he told me as long as my parameters where fine then I could get away with doing weekly/bi-weekly 30-50% water changes and even that is not needed if I keep an eye on my parameters. His show tank has a sump filter and he says he has changed the water maybe a dozen times in 5 years...and that tank was beautiful!

Really? I've only heard they were hard to keep, even from the people on TFK. Wow 0.0 know, seeing as I'm usually wrong about stuff now, I'll just stop trying to answer things.

now i want angel fish instead of bettas in my 75
Darn! And here I thought i finally settled on a stocking order!

ETA: How would Angel fish hold up in cycling a tank? I'm thinking they may not hold very well.

Oh well, brings me back to my original plan of a betta sorority. Unless they'll be fine with the tank fully planted AND cycling?

You see what you did? Got me hooked on those fishys.

If you plant it very well then they'd be fine.
Get a group of at least 6 of them.

Well I don't think that work too well. With only 3 different species including the angels. AqAdvisior says I'd be pushing my filtration system.
I'll just go back to my planted betta sorority.
