Okay. Valentino is officially MIA in the tank. Can't find hide nor scale of him anywhere. He had this growth on his side, and only this one side, that I felt deep in my heart of hearts, was a tumor, and not him actually being a her and being egg bound. Most likely he died sometime within the last day, and the snails "disposed" of his remains.

That left me with the my tank available to house a new betta. I am thinking, though this may seem a tad pretentious and whatnot, that I want to buy a tattered, torn and sick betta at the pet store who is in need of a good home and give him some good old fashioned TLC and all that. I want to rehabilitate a fish. What can I say?

did you check the floor around the tank? if so, he could be there and dried up and unconscious. but he's not in the tank? :(

you should totally do a rescue though if you feel like you can. Sorry about Valentino though!

Yes, if you find him on the floor just put him back in water. Fish have been known to be dried up for 13 hours and still come back fine.

taking a break from fish-keeping.
3 lovely male betta still keep me company.

I've thuroughly searched the floor around the tank twice, and looked in and around the tank itself three times and even tossed in some betta pellets and blood worms to entice him out of any place he might be hiding. I picked up, searched, poked and prodded every tank decoration, moved around the plants as best I could and even looked behind the filter in case he got stuck there.

Nothing. Not a trace of him. :(

I've got some water chilling.. or rather warming up. I'll crush up a leaf and add salt. She looks really bad. She's "bubbling". I've seen really sick fish do this when they are on their way out before :/

Actually I'll get some warm water and steep the leaf and mix the cold and the hot and let them settle.

Have you tried dwarf lilly? I rodered 2 and they both looked kinda dead when i got them but I planted them anyways. Man have they sprouted up. They grow like an inch a day with my lighting - which i think is a T8 and API leaf zone suppliment
