Well it's supposd to be like a gooey cornbread, personally I would recommend hoe cake. Also old timey!
3 cups all purpose flour
4 tsps. baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 TBLS shortening
enough water to make a soft but firm dough; about 3/4 to 1 cup of liquid.
mix flour, baking powder, and salt. cut in shortening until it looks like coarse crumbs. Add water to make a dough that is soft but not sticky, if it is too sticky just add more flour. form dough into a ball and divide into four equal parts. Form each part into a ball and flatten it to form a piece of flat bread.
Heat enough oil or fat to cover the bottom of a cast iron skillet and fry each round until golden brown on each side and each piece has puffed.
I tried to make it firmer by baking it longer cus I wasn't sure how the consistency was supposed to be or if I'd get sick if I ate it when it was gooier :/.
