I'm having a honey badger day, I'm so irritated I don't care anymore.

I'm looking at two lights for my 1 gallon planted snail tank because my desk lamp gets too hot and heats the tank up. Which wouldn't be a problem if it didn't already have a heater. Marina Light Unit 7W is one of them and the other is actually two LED Marina Light units. I can't find zilch on them and amazon reviews are sketchy at best. Heck the very heater I bought got horrible reviews saying it either boiled their tank or didn't heat it, keeps my ONE gallon at 80 degrees FYI. >.<*

What tank is it for Tiki? The ceramic is good for holding bacteria.

and what kind of media do you use in yours? I'm gonna replace what it came with - sponge, bag of..carbon?? and small ceramic suff. What's the ceramic stuff for? and will the carbon take the plant ferterlizer stuff out of the water? I usually skip the carbon unless i need it for something like mediine removal
I personally love using sponge filters.
Carbon CAN remove plant fert and other medications that get added into the tank. I am not sure what the ceramic is for.

the ceramic is "biomax" for bacteria to grow on. Use more sponge.

Kinetic, is the Marina 7w one kind of a silver round thing that rests on the tank lid? Like this?

If so, then NO. It melted the plastic lid on my tank. Get LED if at all possible. Penn Plax has a new small LED light fixture out, see if you can find something about that.

EDIT: Tiki, the plastic switch thingie, can it be removed? If so, stick it back in and adjust it. It's there to keep the filter level. It kind of props the bottom half of the filter out.

EDIT II: Ditch the carbon. Fishy's right, it removes plant ferts and stuff.

EDIT III: Kinetic, this is the Penn Plax one I'm talking about on amazon.

I'm gonna use it for the 20G soriety. I think I'm gonna need to do some serious baffeling

Sakura - no, it's not removable. It has a symbol on it - a crecent shape where one side is fatter and the other side is smaller.
This pic is frm ebay for the 110 model. You see that switch thingy on the bottom? Thats what I am talking about

OK so no carbon. Should I do 2 sponges one one ceramic thingy?
