It could be age related. My father-in-law is stuck in his workplace because of his age. He is 48. Most places don't want people at that age in many fields. The bad thing about that is that in America most young people don't want to work so they have high turnover as a result.

If I were them I would petitioning the government or companies for a pay increase to cover said charges or create healthcare providers like those in the US as well as rules and regulations to keep them competitive and thus keeping the cost to employers down.
That's all good sounding and all but Capitalism is not good to those in the lower line of earning. Something like 15% of Canadians spend 63% of their earnings on basic necessities (food, shelter and some clothes) if we suddenly had to pay for doctors it would bump this number sky high. We cannot afford it, the rich are getting richer while the poor are dying. I don't know the exact percentage of homeless people now as it is, imagine the problem if we suddenly had to pay to go see doctors (and there are high high numbers of pneomonia and that other coughing infection bc of the wet winds and Newfoundland has the highest number of HPV clients in the country. I know for a fact Newfoundlanders would perish by the thousands.

My uncle died in December 2012 coughing and hacking to death during an asthma attack bc welfare forgot to renew his puffer subscription and he couldn't afford it without one. And that's not to mention the thousands of people and families in similar conditions in mainland Canada with population density alone.

So no, it's not just protested by people who don't want to pay for healthcare, sociologically, there are hundreds of thousands whose voices don't matter in the grand scheme of things and are not heard and they simply cannot afford to lose free healthcare.

And that's the problem with capitalism, isn't it? Crush us little guys with no money to pay for our own health, so all the big guys can wallow in more cash then they need. -_- More money for everyone but the poor! Oh, let's up your salary from $100,000 to $200,000. We'll just tax the poor more, they don't care.
People who don't want to pay for health care. We pay for it in our taxes! We can't afford anything else!
But yea it makes perfect sense, keep us unhealthy, gives us more drugs, make more money..
And no, it's not as simple as everything here is free. You still leave the hospital with a huge bill for all their "services." You still pay for prescription pills, you pay for the dentist. I haven't been to a dentist in Canada in 10 years cause we can't afford it. We don't want to pay for it?! Really?!
I finally went last year in Poland, got my teeth cleaned for $40. Thank the lord that I don't have a deformed jaw like most of my friends or else I'd just have to live with teeth stabbing into my gums for the rest of my life.

Right on the nose. Capitalism is the problem. I wouldn't call my self a Marxist because I don't believe Socialism would work as an alternative but we need to fight this.

Yea Shirley, my dad was a carpenter/plumber, he used to build houses and such. Now he needs a job easy on the body, but sadly his English has kept him from the few desk jobs he almost got.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, yea it does suck.
Newfoundland definitely has the most poverty in Canada cause of all those fishermen.
Even here, a study just came out that to live comfortably in Kingston, a family needs to make at least $34,000 a year (we have expensive rent and living here), and 25% of families here make less than that. O.o

And yea capitalism is a problem.. So is every other form of government sadly in one way or another. People should have the ability to do well and succeed, but it's just gone too far in that people are being abused so others can succeed.

So good and bad news. My snails arrived safely! Yay! Me and Matt are hopefully going to meet today! Bad news the fish in the same package died :(
So I am very happy to get my snails yet upset that Canada post once again failed. The box was stuffed in the mail box so we had no idea it had arrived until it was too late :(
My snails are pretty awesome apparently though, I will post pics ASAP!

I feel awful that Canada post messed it up once again. When something is clearly labeled "LIVE FISH" it should not be crammed into my mailbox in sub zero weather.

How can I breed bettas but not guppies. Wow.
