My aquarium has a led light. Should I leave it on through the night?

No, you should turn it off, let your fish rest, it becomes night in nature so it should in your tank too.

The owner put some type of small frog in the tank on a Friday and Monday his tail looked chewed on so she took the frog out. Then the fish started getting white patches, so we bought ich medication and some other stuff. Each time the tank was cleaned the next day the water was cloudy. The fish quit eating about a week ago, his lips were swollen, eyes were huge and cloudy and he just lays on his plant. They gave up on him but I refused to, so I brought him home. I bought a 5 gallon tank yesterday, with pump, filter and heater and all new stuff. I was told to only use Distilled water to fill it. The water was clear until today. Then I read not to use Distilled water which scared me so I took out about a gallon of water and replaced it with tap water and added the conditioner. His eyes are almost back to normal now, but he isn't active. He stays at the top of the tank in the corner. Please help I don't want him to die.
Hi Scoobie and welcome to the forum. I'm glad to hear you've taken this little fish into your care and we'll all be happy to help. For best results, I suggest you start a thread in the Diseases and Emergencies section; a lot of people will see it and be able to offer you advice.

EDIT: Fishy, I'm so sorry about Stumpy. :(

What do you do when it's 5 AM and you can't sleep? Do a nitrate test. -___-

Good morning all.

EDIT: Here's the strange part. In that tank, I had a Marineland Duetto 100 running with an Aquaclear 30. The Duetto would get clogged on an epic scale every week so I finally took it out and the filter I replaced it with broke so for a week, it's only been the Aquaclear. I was so worried about the nitrates because in the past, they've been hovering around 20-40ppm. Now that the Duetto is gone, the nitrates are 5.0ppm. o.O I can only assume the clogged Duetto was causing more waste because of the gunk in it.

good morning!!

Sorry to hear about Stumpy, Fishy. :(

When I got my plants off reddit I didn't expect much but I am after planting 3 broken off stems of wisteria and within hours they spread out their roots and start growing. My tallest piece might need to be trimmed soon.

I have never had so much luck with plants! I love watching them bc everyday between lights-on and lights-off there is something new growing that I notice. Even without ferts though I had to scrape algae off them all yesterday. Got an algae carpet off my filter's output ramp.

I don't understand, I can handle the tank not being cycled but that there is such significant plant growth everyday and STILL algae is beyond me. (Posting this in plants section too)
