They definitely can be. I just know not to push my boundaries with them, as well as not to let them rely on me for food. That could turn out badly, for them, or for whoever they wander up to wanting food. So I throw chunks of nummy stuff and after they're all done I let them hang out for a bit, then I'll take a step toward them and make sure they run away.
I DEFINITELY didn't want to upset momma coon though.
My uncle had pet raccoons, and even when the females were just in heat you didnt go near them, let alone if they had babies!
I believe the ones in my yard are so docile because I respect them, their limits, and my own.
I mean, if you saw a 20ft tall creature coming at you that was known for hurting your species, wouldn't you run away? And if you couldn't, then would you not fight for your life? I would, so I don't blame them for some of the bad incidents I've heard of. >.<
