Also dyeing is pretty easy as well, esp with food coloring/kool aid. You can still use the pots you use to dye in for food afterward. Me, I have dedicated pans since I use acid dyes :p

UglyMuffin: Relax. If necessary, use a larger hook to do your foundation chain.

AngelicScars: So cute! I love it! And that was the first thing you crocheted? You're a natural.

Cajunamy: I do predraft but maybe a little too much. It probably doesn't help that I'm trying to spin a finer yarn, around a fingering/DK weight. Can't wait to see what you've spun. Hurry up and charge, camera! Also pretty sure the fiber I'm using is carded corriedale, at least that was what I was told when I bought it.

Mmm.. a hand made scarf out of just the right feeling wool would be really nice. Times like this I wish I knew how to. Think it's the only thing mother couldn't teach me how to do... (besides how to cook and clean and... )
One of my favorite quotes is from Elizabeth Zimmerman - 'For those allergic to wool, one's heart bleeds"

Alpaca & angora are good soft options for those allergic to wool ;) Also, you say it makes you itch, but, there are some really buttery soft wool yarns out there - I wonder if you've only ever come in contact with the coarser stuff?

Ah yes. fine yarns. Took a loooong time for me to get there. One of the 2 I finished is a 2 ply sock yarn :) I wonder if you just try splitting really thin, if that would help you?

I can try that and see, thank you for the tip. Any tips for joining in new fiber? That also seems to be a weak point for me.

Awww *hugs*
Muffin, I can't even crochet! Best thing I made was a flower-looking-thingamajig. :/

Just because I don't type with candy and rainbows doesn't mean I'm being mean.

Yeah, there are some rough wool out there, but there is some super soft stuff too. Bamboo has to be the softest stuff I've ever touched though!

Thanks! The other thing I crocheted was a pair of baby/child pants (also known as longies in the cloth diapering group ) I made it out of crappy acrylic yarn that is super rough. It was just to see if I could do it. Then, I went back to knitting because I honestly like it TONS more.
