I just bought a 36.00 skein of sock yarn. Those had better turn into one heck of a pair of socks, LOL. I am a snob now. I won't even knit with the yarn I spin myself.

You should try Magic Loop, it's awesome. Make sure you buy a good circular. These are great, and cheap.

NFL, fiber contect and if the yarn is handdyed determine price. The better wools/angoras are more $$.

I decided shelling out $5 for a ball of yarn was nothing the day I bought a skein of Blue Heron Beaded Rayon for the first time. I was like, "Did I seriously just drop $50 on yarn?" But it was worth it.

NFL, some yarns are made with fibers that are rare. Someday, I want to work with camel fiber. :)

$5 . . . expensive?
