Nice pics Vaygirl Overall, I'd say you've been very succesful with plants. Since we're in the great Northeast - do you have any suggestions for perennials that I can plant now for late summer/early fall? I've got a huge bed that gets full sun and all it has atm is mulch :(

I'm planting some iris bulbs this fall there but would like some low growing colorful flowers to fill it in with.

I'm so clueless I do have some books that I haven't had a chance to read yet but like anything else, there's nothing like learning from people who have been there and done that.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I'd go with Hardy Mums (Chrysanthemums). They're easy to grow and they come in all kinds of colors. They're not terribly low growing but you can keep them low and bushy by pinching blooms when they're spent. They might not be around garden centers for another month though.

Home depot was my best friend. I just went around for a while, reading every tag and trying out many different things. So, check out garden centers now and talk to someone there. There might be a low growing late bloomer that I don't know about.

There are a lot of really nice shade plants but the only one I ever had great results with were plain old cheap impatiens. They grew like crazy! Next year that's what's going in my rear bed.

Yes, tell him I love it. It's gorgeous. And I love the birds too. I'm a bird watcher so that's extra cool for me. :D

If you like bird watching, you should go to our local lake, its amazing in March, all the birds that are migrating stop there, even flamingos.. I have pics of that too but I think these are enough today lol! My dad's an ex- army man, he's a stay at home dad now and the garden is his pride and joy hehe, mum doesn't care as much XD
