That's a brave move! I don't think I'd be able to do that at that age with responsibilities of a family. If I don't have children maybe it is possible but I don't think it would be possible if I do. :/

lol, yeah, that would be funny. When I was in college, majoring in psychology, my mom was taking a psychology class at the jr college where we lived. She would call me and ask me for help. "Can you explain Freud's id, ego and super ego to me? " And I'm like ok, let me get my book. lol

Well, I'm just joining in on this conversation. Currently, I am working with supporting adults with developmental disabilities. To add to my reportoire of skills/knowledge, I have done one day a week in apprenticeship course for a Developmental Services Worker certificate since Sept 2009. My course will be completed May 2012. I'm 47.

In 2005, I went to college fulltime for 20 weeks to get Personal Support Worker Certificate (working in nursing homes). I did this to change my work from accounts payable clerk to working directly in health care. Before that I worked as Human Resources clerk; before that I had temporary office jobs; before that I worked in group homes for children (that was after graduating from college the first time).

Straight out of high school, I attended 3 years fulltime college to get my Child Care Worker Diploma which is now known as Child and Youth Worker.

I have also gone to college at other times to take single courses. I feel like I've never left school at all. Now, there are many people who work fulltime, have families etc going to post secondary school. In this day and age, I think that you need to constantly upgrade yourself.

For those of you just starting out, don't worry too much about doing the wrong thing or making the wrong choice. You have all kinds of time to try out things and to learn new things. I have changed my job types several times, but find that I like working in social services best.
