Well ten gallon tanks are pretty cheap, so I guess I better start saving up for that and a filter :P

10 gallons? Don't even bother with a Goldfish. Look at a 30-55 gallon one depending on if he is fancy or not.

I made that same mistake and I regret it. Just go big from the start. It wastes money to keep upgrading until you finally find the home he can live the rest of his life in.

+1. Goldfish grow fast, and even fancies will get to the size of your fist and more than 6 inches long. You'd have to work really hard to keep the water quality in a 10 good enough. Go for a 20+ from the start. :)

A good but very minimal rule for goldies is:
Small fancies, like celestials: 20 gallons for the first, 10 for each additional
Bigger fancies, like moores: 30 gallons for the first, 10 for each additional
Comets and shubunkins: 55 gallons for the first, 20 for each additional
Commons: 75 gallons for the first, 20 for each additional

Doing this from the beginning saves a lot of money and it means you never risk stunting their growth if you miss the odd water change. :)

Life.

Very good, thank you!

+1 A common or Comet Goldfish, like what I assume you have, can easily get over a foot long. Easily. They can get 2 feet long. And need double filtration because they produce so much waste.

You really should have done your research! Now a poor Goldfish has to suffer because of it. Get rid of him, please. I bet being dinner would be better for him. That is pretty selfish to say that. You need to care for him.

Next time, do your research. Now you ither need to make things right or rehome him.

I'm sorry to say this, but he is just a 15 cent goldfish. 1 out of hundreds at petco.
What would his life become? Food or dead.
He's swimming, he's eating. He looks fine.
And if he does grow large I will buy him a bigger tank, okay?

Wow. Just wow. And there are billions of people in the world. Dead or alive. But we all still deserve life, and quality of life, huh? Wow. You should NOT own pets.

And he won't grow larger. He won't grow because his body knows there isn't enough room. He will be stunted and end up with a bent spine.

Even if he NEVER grew, the ammonia would kill him.

Take him back. being food is much better than the long painful death you have set him up for. Please!

What do you keep your bettas in? Cups?

Just because I don't have a goldfish in a big tank that makes me a terrible human being?
May I ask you, are you an expert at goldfish? Or fish in general?

I never, ever said that. I'm sure you are a really nice person if someone gets to know you.

Yeah, most common freshwater fish. But I have no clue regarding anything saltwater.
