Goldfish ideally need x10 water filtration. So say a tank is 10 litres, you would need a filter that does at least 100 litres an hour. However, I would aim for one that does 150-200 litres per hour.

You will need to do a lot more water changes than 10% a week. Even if your tank is fully capable of coping with your bioload - which is unlikely, the amount of nitrates that is going to be produced because of the large volume of ammonia processed, will require at least once or twice weekly 50% changes.

Have you got a liquid test kit? If you are set on housing your goldfish in a 2.5 gallon tank, you are going to want to know exactly what your parameters are.

Really, you are going to use the "it is JUST a fish" argument on a forum geared towards fish care and the idea that they are more than just fish, thus deserving of proper care ?

Sorry, but I take offense to that statement.

I would also recommend stripping the gravel out and leaving your tank barebottom so you can easily siphon out any waste. This will also slightly increase the available water volume, and give him a bit more room to swim.

Some goldfish like eating veggies. Some blanced lettuce, zucchini and peas are all good snacks for them. Mine also love a treat of frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp once a week.

In the grand scheme of things, it techincally is just a fish. There are probably millions of fish that are fished, eaten, tortured and killed every hour of the day.

Someone putting a goldfish in a 2.5 gallon bowl through ignorance IMO does not need to be crucified over it.

LaLaLeyla is obviously trying to do her best with what she has and I'm not going to condemn her for that.

There is a lot more cruelty in the world that deserves attention than someone housing a goldfish in an inappropriately sized tank.

Yeah, but that is no excuse. That is like saying 'well everyone else is doing it and they are doing even worse stuff so it is okay'.

Eventually he'll probably go into a pond when he gets big enough he's only bout 2-3 inches right now. Gotta be able to fend off the hawks and the like. If not I'll get hima bigger tank and put it in the basement whenever we finish/clean that -.-
