I'm in no way promoting keeping solitary rats...he is the only one I've kept that way and it kills me to do so. Even after neutering he is distressed just by the presence of another rat, I need to keep my other boys in a separate room. I have no idea why. I've had him for almost 2 years.
I've had rats since I was very young, and I always always ALWAYS make sure there are 2+ to a cage. Even if you're with your rat 24/7 it's not enough to replace the companionship of their own kind.
I'm sorry if it seemed like I thought it was ok, I know it isn't, but that's the only option for him.
